A winter challenge no one should face

As the colder months approach, life becomes even tougher for people sleeping rough across the UK. Wind, rain, and freezing temperatures make survival a daily challenge. At The Ootsider, we believe no one should face a winter night without warmth – and this year, we’ve set ourselves a big goal: to make and donate 300 waterproof sleeping coats.

Who we are

The Ootsider is a social enterprise based in West Lothian and Edinburgh. We sell handmade changing robes and adaptive coats – including a wheelchair coat and an adaptive coat with magnetic fastening. Every purchase helps us reinvest profits to make sleeping coats, which are then donated directly to people experiencing rough sleeping.

Why 300 more coats this winter?

To date, The Ootsider has already donated over 300 sleeping coats across the UK. With our supporters’ community growing, we believe we can achieve even more. This winter, we’re aiming high – another 300 coats, which will take around £30,000 to make possible.

John’s Kilimanjaro climb

To raise awareness and funds, our founder John Keogh is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro this October. His challenge isn’t just about reaching the summit – it’s about shining a light on the urgent need to support rough sleepers here at home.
